I was on a committee that just spent 1 1/2 years deciding on a new LA series. We were down to Macmillan and Harcourt, but Harcourt was stronger in some areas including writing. We are piloting next fall. We feel we want it presented as a core program where it meets many needs, but none can cover everything (i.e. we like other materials for our basic guided reading groups) We felt if we determined what we really had to have, don't buy every frill, then we would have money left to help teachers supplement books in their classrooms.
