No child left behind

This year I really do feel that my class was taught to pass the test and not much else. I have been teaching for thirty years and this is the first time I have felt this way. I have students who have trouble reading a story and answering basic knowledge questions (who, what when, where)To make it worse, this group had to pass a reading test to get to fourth grade. I just don't know how some of them passed.
I had planned to work for 4-5 more years but I find myself looking for ways to retire sooner.
