This probably won't help, since we don't use science books, but I wanted to share. A local university has a program we participate in. It's called HASP, Hands-on Activity Science Program. They provide four or five units for each elementary grade level. Everything you need to teach the material. Our next unit is Organisms. Each child will have their own freshwater aquarium with snails and guppies, grow plants, and a woodland terrarium. It's a great program and I don't mind having to go for the training for the modules. Maybe a college near you would be interested. They do get paid for it. Big bucks.
