Timed Reading
By JulieP

Clip to ScrapBook
Introduce the text, read it with the students, and then give your slow ones a stop watch to read with. The goal is to read it two or three times and to try to beat your previous time. Have students do this with a partner as well.

You can also encourage students to use their fingers. I start by modeling it for them as they read, and move my finger a litlle faster than they are reading.

Last idea, pick a poem or paragraph for the class to read out loud, together. Try reading it at different speeds, use different expresions and tones, etc.
