We did a study of various versions of fairy tales, some traditional, some twisted. Then the kids wrote great stories taking care to include all the elements: magic, multiples of 3 or 7, an evil character, a good character, etc.

We have also made ABC books on a variety of topics... these are always great and be done about everything from math vocabulary to a social studies unit, to science eqiupment... anything works. The kids wrote definitions or gave examples of a word starting with each letter and then illustrated each page with great detail. The challenge is finding vocabulary for letters like q, x and z!
