penny experiment
By fiona

Clip to ScrapBook
Hi- I think this is an AIMS peices as well, but I learned it at a Family Scince training, which is the same series as the Family Math text. The reason is surface tension. However, I incorporated this experiment into an inttegrated Math ?Science unit and included Probability and Estimating. We found that the wear of the penny (smoothness) afffected the amount of water held as a factor as well. Your son could have visitors to his experiment record their estimate and actual results to make the exhibit more interactive and interesting, maybe even giving a penny to the people who come closest to their actual result! Godd luck!
