High frequency words

My district follows a spelling curriculum called WINK (words I need to know). It has 5 pattern(__at, __ot) words and 5 high frequency words such as: am, the, it, that etc.
These are different than sight words which could be pretty hard for first grade. I like the 5 of each every week. We then add those 5 high frequency words to our "word wall" for easy reference.
There are lists of high frequency lists in order available if you wanted to work on them with your child. You could also try talking to your curriculum director. Maybe the teacher would consider using them as bonus words.
