Social Studies

I'm a first year 5th grade teacher also and my students were not very interested in social studies, until I started talking about history with their names. Instead of using "they" or "he" did this, I say "you" or "we" did this. We pretend that we are the people in their book, or other family members. We are the children of Puritian families. We make up the Continential Congress. We discuss how we would react if we were in their shoes all the time. But the best way is to be exited about social studies yourself. If you are passionate, they feed off of it and start to love any subject.
