I have taught in the southern Shenandoah Valley near Roanoke, VA and now teach in the northern Shenandoah Valley near Harrisonburg, VA and male teachers are required to wear ties excluding p.e. teachers. Our two male school administrators are also required to wear ties as well. Although female teachers are not required to wear dresses or skirts. Our female administrator always wears a business suit (dress blouse, skirt, and jacket). I believe should would prefer the female teachers to dress more like her but as long as we dress professionally she is fine with it. She discourages any days for "dress down." I must confess ... it doesn't seem fair for the men.
