I also teach in a one room schoolhouse and have had the same problem with one of my 5th graders. He unfortunatly comes from a home where running water is a luxury, not a neccesity. I finally broke down and bought him a stick of deodorant for him to keep in his back pack. I had the county nurse discuss with him that children at his age (13) start producing body odor that is not friendly to those around him. Now all I have to do is send him to the restroom and he understands why. It's hard to discuss at first, but everyone around him will thank you in the end. Good luck!
