I read the first Boxcar Children and Ramona the Pest. My kids love these and even mine with shortest attention span are asking when are we going to read... I also read a few Henry and Mudge and also Pinky and Rex. I use my read aloud time as a way to excite them about wonderful authors or series that my talented readers could read and those not ready could listen to a parent read. At the end of the year I send home a list of good read aloud books for the summer as well as a list of books my first graders could read on their own. My hope is that this will keep them reading.
