grades
By Kim C

Clip to ScrapBook
Our district uses rubrics for grades K-3. We assess the students each trimester to see what they have mastered and grade them according to what rubric they fall under. There are benchmark rubrics for reading, math, and writing. It makes it SO much easier to grade and also easier to explain to the parents about where their child falls. They have to meet all criteria in the rubric to be at that level. We also post independent reading levels for grades 1-3. When I meet with parents for conferences in early December I can be specific about their strengths and sweaknesses. Also, the parents have the rubrics so they know what the children are learning each year and what is expected.
