a bit here and a bit there By Anes McClelland

| To be a successful and popular substitute, one too must spend. I use up about 120 index cards each day, I pass out about the same number of stickers, Valentine erasers have a price, as well as pencils that never come back. Blank paper, office supplies, transparencies with markers, prizes from the dollar store, folders, craft items, construction paper for the vine of friendliness, and 4 cents for each copy of a hall pass or nurse pass each time all adds up to a fortune. I really don’t make that much working as a sub, but I want my classes to be fun, enjoyable, rewarding, and popular, so I consider the $20.00 extra per week as a necessary part of being successful in subbing.
