Going back to work when your new little darling is only 6 weeks old is very hard even under normal conditions. I have seen a few tears from returning moms, myself included. It does sem to be a nasty break to miss that last treasured week, but you REALLY need the rest yourself.
Will you be able to return to work in a week anyway after your surgery? Techniques have improved, but I doubt I would have been ready to go back to work after my appendectomy years ago. Be sure to check withoyour doctor. Maybe there can be sick leave for your recovery from the appendectomy that may include some time of not being ready for ready for Matt can be home with you.
