Vocab Help
By MEg

Clip to ScrapBook
I call vocabulary words "Magic Words". Instead of having my students copy the word then look up the definition, we reveiw the words on the board and I write the definition next to the word (only on Monday do I write the definition). Then when we read the story and come to a "magic word" the students raise their hand and then I call on one of them to tell the class what the word means. We do this all week long. This way, the students remember the word and the definition without writing it down. This saves a lot of time too. They love it. We play vocab games throughout the week also, like matching. Since I started using this method, my students' vocab scores have improved.
