After having worked in K & 1, 4, 5, & 6, my "personal" opinion is that those who teach the younger group work so much harder physically. You're always up or the kids are up coming to you...rarely is there a moment a teacher can catch her breath and regroup. In the upper grades at least the majority of students have learned to stay in their seats and do seatwork.

My opinion...teachers should be traveled according to "miles traveled". The students and teacher could wear an odometer and then the teacher could be paid accordingly. The more you're up and about...the more "travel expense" you earn.

I have no answers for you. I've always felt that teachers are grossly underpaid no matter where they work!
