It is really a judgment call. If a student is there everyday, but the test day I would say they take as soon as they return. If the student knows he/she is going to be gone, I give them the choice to take it early or when they return. If the student misses several days, I would give him/her time to study and complete assignments related to the material. Then you have the question of what to do with others graded tests. You can wait until all tests are taken and then pass them back, or pass them pack for students to look at and send the students who haven't taken it out of the room with one of those make-up assignments to study from. Just some ideas.
