I am also a second career teacher-to-be. I am currently in my student teaching phase. What is difficult for me (I am 55 years old) is that my experiences in grade school were so different from the experiences children have today. So - when I don't know what to do and try to remember what it was like for me as a child, my frame of reference doesn't seem to pertain to the situation. My cooperating teacher is younger than some of my children. She is kind and helpful but I still feel inept and lost a lot. One of my professors told me to hang in there for three years, because the first two were going to be very rough, but things would get better. I am hanging on to that.
