fluency
By TX teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
This is how we're told to measure fluency in third grade at my school. We conference w/ each student weekly. They read a story at third grade level that has over 100 words in it. I time them for a minute to see how many words they got correct. A third grader from what I understand should be able to read at least 80 wpm. Comprehension is also part of fluency so I ask them to retell what they read.

I know another teacher that will give a student a reading and ask them to read it cold the first time. The student is timed to see how long it takes them to read it. Then, they take the reading home and practice it and try to improve their time.
