I am teaching in a similar situation to you for the first time this year. It's important that you are both equals in the classroom as someone else pointed out. It is really nice though because my coteacher and I share lesson planning responsibilities so we trade off every week. We also take turns with the grading (a huge help) and with the teaching. We share the teaching of lessons. I might do the anticipatory set, she'll teach a skill, I'll explain the way we're going to split into groups, and she'll give the assignment. It's nice in so many ways. We are able to meet with students much more than I could on my own, plus classroom management is easier too. I hope you enjoy your co-teaching experience as much as I am.
