To discuss how important word choice is - I passed out a chocolate chip cookie WITHOUT the chips. We discussed words that are constantly showing up in writing (i.e. nice, good, said, etc.). I then passed out a chocolate chip cookie (with chips) and we "spruced" up the previous words. We discussed how those "no-chip" words aren'ts wrong but not as exciting as "with chips" - just like the cookies. Now when I'm grading - I just put down "add more chips" and they understand. It's a fun activity and you get to eat. (It did take awhile because I had to bake 75 cookies with and without chips!) Hope this helps. . .that's a great resource book.
