"D unit"
By Susan

Clip to ScrapBook
I have my students become "D" Deputies or "D" Detectives. (I buy the pins that look like a deputy would wear at Oriental.) We divide up into groups, with each group having an adult or helper. Each group has a clipboard and we do a "walk about" on the school grounds looking for things that begin with the letter "d". Each group is given a time to return to the classroom and we make a list on the board of all the things on their lists. Then we have a "Dd" snack in celebration. One year a parent made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, cut them out with a dog bone cookie cutter, and our "D"og-gone "d"eputies had a "d"og-gone "d"elicious, "d"elightful "d"inner.

We also made a "Digger the Dog" sack puppet.
