mentor relationships By Doni

If you don't feel a connection with her, I suggest going to the principal and asking that she be assigned another mentor. It's a disservice to both of you if you are not happy with the mentoring relationship. I know. My first year of teaching, I had a mentor who did not like me. She added more stress to my already stressful situation than could be imagined. The teachers in my school are very unwelcoming to new staff members. I had a very difficult class with lots of SLDs and kids in the EIP and Title 1 program. This teacher had never taught at my grade level (she had always been a 2nd grade teacher). She resented when I came to her about problems, but complained that I was a know it all when I didn't come to her. It was bad for both of us.
