myths By Former Teacher

Maybe this falls into the realm of vocabulary, but perhaps they could study some of the Greek, Roman, and other myths from which Rowling got many of the character and creature names. Kids this age usually love studying myths| anyway, and it is a good tie-in to the history of Hogwarts and its characters. Also, there are some good web sites out there created by teachers to be used with the Harry Potter books. I'll bet a search on Google or some other engine would find some good resources. I think there also is a book that someone wrote on this very topic (i.e. the origins of Rowling's names and references). |
| I don't remember what it is called, but a librarian/media specialist would probably know about it. Or try the Scholastic site.Have fun with this book. I love the series and am eagerly awaiting book 6. (Hurry up, Jo!)
