5th graders By JoyceP in Texas

| I teach fifth graders and I think they are a wonderful age to teach. However, in fifth grade they realize that they can be hurt by others words, and some are hesitant to get in front of groups for fear of rejection. I think that you have a good opportunity to give the students an opportunity that they will remember a life time. Perhaps you need to do some pr work to make the project seem really "cool". Group them to sing. If they still don't want to sing, give them jobs to hand out programs, fix backdrops, etc. If you play your cards right, you can get everybody involved in one way or the other. Explain why they are singing--Coming to America. Bottom line, the more excited you are that the particular child is involved at whatever level, the better the response from everybody. Good luck! Let us know how it goes. Joyce
