I usually do Reading Workshop for 1 hour daily. I try to utilze strateigies that I have learned from different resources- Words Their Way for example. Though I haven't done any of the games myself, I have heard that there are fun "jeopady"-type games. I track fluency by reading with one or two students once a week from each Guided Reading group (this is the goal at least). I record an anecdotal note based on the speed and basic comfort level the student had in reading (less than 3 miscues). I utilize the DRA to assess Reading Comprehension and Fluency once a trimester. This is also how I determine my Guided Reading groups. I must say that the DRA is very helpful and easy to administer. It gives great feedback, and proves that students are truly improving. Good luck with whatever you decide to do! God bless!
