Low income areas By Tracey
|
| I am in a similar situation where i am teaching right now. Mississippi has a program called the Crtical Needs Teacher Scholarship that payed for four years of my college tuition, housing and expenses in exchange for a 3 year committment in a shortaged low-income area. I graduated and am now in a crital needs area in the MS delta. Which is hell on earth compared to schools in suburban areas! Even though the scholarship did pay for 4 years of college, I have been regreting it everyday since. I would rather have enormous student loans then teach in a a school that makes me physically sick everyday. If $3500 is all he has to pay back if he defaults then count that as a blessing. If I default I have to pay back $30,000 plus interest. I'm going to tough it out and finish my three year committment and then leave immediately even if i haven't found a job.
