loud room
By Susan/5th

Clip to ScrapBook
Why are they noisy? Are they blurting out a lot while you're teaching? Are they unable to work in groups quietly? First I would make sure I'm following up with whatever procedures you have for blurting out (warning, sign
the book, write-up, etc....). Something else I've found is working wonderfully. I have my students in groups of 5-6. I give "table points". If a group takes out a book quietly and waits for instructions, they get a point. At the end of the week, the group with the most points gets to pick from my goody basket. They really work hard to remind each other (by putting a finger over
their lips, since "shushing" makes too much noise, and the "talkers" don't get that good reinforcement (the laughs from their silly antics)like they want, so they stop. I hope it gets better for you. Sometimes you just get loud groups. This year is much better than last year.
