Maternity leave
By Sue W.

Clip to ScrapBook
How long will the sub be with your class? If its a couple of weeks its a lot different than if its 6 months. Long term subs are actually the teacher for that period of time and if it is months, it seems unfair to try to
control too much. We all do the best, teaching in our own style. There are so many great teachers with very different ways of dealing with a classroom.
In our district, classroom teachers going on a leave are involved in the hiring of the sub, so that can help if you find someone you are comfortable with having in your room, and reduce the control issue.
I have known a teacher
on a whole year leave who came in and mentored her replacement and have seen others who wanted nothing to do with the time that they were gone. They totally wanted to be a mommy and experience that without continued involvement.
