I've been both
By "Old" Therapist

Clip to ScrapBook
Ladies and gentlemen,

Sorry, therapists. I am both a fully qualified speech pathologist and an elementary reg. ed. teacher. I have done both equal numbers of years so I can tell you hands down, being a therapist is
SO much easier. In the last 12 years, I have witnessed the laziest of therapists get away with murder. They give the children minimal service, show up late, cancel and just complain way too much. Heavens! They have 45 kids. The classroom teacher, overall, has the more massive responsibility and we continually juggle all the academics, remediation, behavior issues, parents, parties,
open houses, conferences with all of our parents, reports, report cards, etc. The list is a mile high. Therapists tend to use a canned program for IEP development.

If you have a very ambitious and hard working speech therapist, write them a note of appreciation. But, I still say CLASSROOM TEACHERS WORK MUCH HARDER.
