    parents' absurdities

I have many stories to tell about the absurdities of parents, but I will just describe my most recent. Both stories are related.

A day or two after we came back from Christmas vacation this year, a parent asked me if her child could bring in her science project. I reminded the parent nicely, but firmly, that the project was due on December 15, so I was not able to accept it. My report cards had already been completed and given to the office!

Related to this: Two years ago, I had a child who was behind in his work for the second marking period. His mother asked me if he could complete the work over his Christmas vacation and submit it after Christmas. I reminded her that the closing period for grades was the last day of school before the holiday, and that I couldn't accept anything after that date.

I guess many feel that deadlines were meant to be broken.
