    That first year is rough. I remember spending a lot of time trying to see the standards in the other rooms to be sure my kids were on track (those were the years before testing). Next year you will be a master!

    On the other hand, do you have a mentor? Do the other teachers allow you to borrow their materials? Shame on them if they do not.

    I hope you have peers who can help you out. Humble yourself to them and ask for their help without being defensive. Sometimes new teachers can have a bad attitude and think that older teachers should spend a lot of time with the new ones. We should help out, but remember that our classrooms consume us 150% so be very grateful for anyone's help. Our grade level gets a new teacher every year and it gets tiresome being the old timer. First grade is a lot of work and so many leave to go to other grade levels.
