Does your school counselor meet with students who are having problems? I would refer her to the counselor, maybe see if you can get a schedule for her to go several times a week. I have a child in my room with severe problems
at home. These play out in class. She goes to the counselor once a day during our SSR time. The counselor reads books with her that pertain to families, emotions, handling our problems, etc. They talk, or my student draws for the counselor. I'm finding it is making a difference. This student came to me from another county (one which was on suspension from accredidation). She
was and is still way behind. But her behavior is improving, and she knows if she doesn't complete her work, she doesn't get SSR time, so she can't go to the counselor. My counselor also has set up "Friendship Groups." Groups of students who have various difficulties getting along with others come to her twice a week to learn conflict management, and other people skills.
