I live in Northern Alberta and sometimes even I can't handle the cold.I have only experienced one day where we closed the schools and staff were still expected to come in if they could. That was an unusual freezing rain | day one Spring that slicked down the roads quite a bit. I've gone to school in -48C which is -54 F which was darn tootin cold!!!! The only thing that happens in my area is that at -40C which is also -40 F our school busses are cancelled. This is only because of the type of fuel they use - it can gel up or freeze up at -40 C so they cancel the busses just in case they should stall | |
on the way to school and leave the kid's stranded.BUT the schools are still open and we get about 1/4 of the students who are normally driven to school or who only live a short walking distance away. All the talk about snow days this past week made me a tiny bit envious!
