Clip to ScrapBook
I just finished this unit. As you study different things about the region, have students look for pictures in magazines, newspapers, etc... that show examples of it (transportation, landforms, ethnic groups, climate/seasons,
animals, tourist attractions, etc....) Have them save all of these pictures and create a collage at the end of the unit that shows what they learned. My kids just did this and they had to present and explain their collages to the class. They really impressed me with how much they learned and how well they could speak about their region! I gave them a scoring rubric beforehand and
let them know that instead of giving a unit test, this would count as a unit test grade. It's funny, I wrote about this in the Vent because I had a parent complain about this project, but in the end, most of the kids did a great job and I only heard one parent complaint (through the grapevine, of course!) Have fun. By the way, we're studying the South next, so if you have any ideas, I'd love to hear them.
