Bathroom
By Betty

Clip to ScrapBook
I never "tell" the kids to wait. I "ask" them if they can. If they say no, I say "OK, but you will have to make up this work at recess" and that usually clears up whether or not they really have to go. If a child says it's
an emergency, I always let him go. Yes, some will abuse it, but I'd rather that than face the wrath of the parents.
It may not have been that the first boy forgot to ask again. He may have been afraid to.
I have one boy with a medical problem this year and we have a written letter from the doctor saying that he must always be given permission to use the bathroom with "no requests
to hold it."
Because he has no control over his movements, he has to go clean himself up 1-3 times per day. I have to accept the fact that he will miss lots of class time over this and there's nothing I can do about it. Sometimes I send work home that he missed.
