I had the same problem when starting a new job.
I have 28 pre-schoolers age 31/2 years old. I do have an assistant at all times. I find circle time is difficult for some children. If I motion to my assistant, she knows to take the offender to the table to look at a book until we complete the learning time. If I say "I'm cutting your play time by 5 mins. I do this as soon as we go outside. I also reward the group with 30 mins. play time on the 5 year old playground on Fridays. They really look forward to it. Remember that every behavior is for a reason and communicating with the offender is the best way to solve the problem. "I know it's hard for you to sit at circle time, what can we do to allow the others to learn?Postive reinforcement and consistency is key to solving any problems. Think with your heart and see the child as if you're talking to a parent and you will not say anything out of anger.
