1. I think the project is a great idea for 4th graders. I had mine doing research and typing a report and presenting it with a poster. My kids would've loved your idea better!

2. Kill 'em with kindness. I would play
it off. If you find out again that she is STILL bad mouthing you, then I might address it. I'm not a confrontational person (they don't pay me enough!) so I pick and choose my battles. Then I take the knowledge of their unhappiness since it gives me the upper hand (they don't know we know what they said), and turn it around to suit me. Along the lines of checking with the parent
when you see her (not seeking her out) and just ask how things are going. Let her know you are trying to get input on how people feel about the work and projects assigned since we as teachers are always evaluating ourselves and trying to improve things. It's always interesting to see if they add all happy and positive. It's really insightful.
