Standardized Tests--NCLB

I am so frustrated by my school's focus on NCLB and standardized tests. All I have heard about from my principal and "mentor" teacher is "what are you doing to ensure that all of your students pass the EOGs?" It seems that| the school failed by some fraction of a percent last year and is determine to pass this year. I find it so odd that they are questioning me given the situation that THEY put me in. First of all, this is my first year. Second, I have a combined 4/5 class. Third, 1/2--yes, 11 of 22 of my students are placed in resource (part-time) for learning disabilities. that I have made have gone unanswered--a new map; enough workbooks for everyone to have one; an assistant that actually will help with academics (my 2-hour a day assistant will only make copies and allow me a brief bathroom break); etc. I am so frustrated and tired!! I really want my students to love learning, but I am forced to teach to the test
