public vs. private

Here's my feeling about it: Public schools do pay more, but I think that private schools have more control over their activities. In our public school in SC, for example, every child has to take a state test, whether he is academically suited for it or not. There's a lot of state pressure on public school teachers to have their children excel on the state tests, and we are held accountable for the results, even though we have children whose parents may not be involved enough in their children's education, and even while we have children who miss many days of school and just plain not care about their schooling. My niece attends a private school, and the parents who send their children to this school pay a lot of money for the privilege. This translates into better behaved children who really WANT to learn. In the public school, you have to take anybody and everybody, and that can sometimes be a problem. I have been threatened by children at my school, and I would image that this sort of behavior would not be tolerated at the private schools.
