teaching reading
By Reading teacher

Clip to ScrapBook
Wow, where to start? Was there a reading teacher before you? If so since you are totally new to this I would try to follow the same type of program and then make changes as you go. If this position is completely new then
you need to find out exactly who you are to service and what is expected of you. Is it any student(s) the teacher would like? Will it be the lowest performing students? Do you have a district mandated assessment program such as Results or DRA? If so finding the low students will be easier. If not you may go by who the teacher suggests. I work with a max of 6 students at a time. In the morning
I go into the classrooms to work with a reading group. In the afternoon I pull kids out. Try using the Arkansas model for working with groups. There is a website on this but I have it at work I will try to post it tomorrow. Otherwise you can try a search for Arkansas Model. The website will tell you what materials to use, scheduling, and more. Good luck.
