Sometimes when we do a unit, especailly research where there are facts to review, I summarize each fact on a poster enlarged from clip art. Last year when we studied penguins, each new fact we learned (one or two a day)| was summarized in a short sentence written on a penguin's tummy, and the penguins were displayed on a big ice floe on the board. This year as we do frogs, we'll summarize each new fact on a lily pad in a pond. Then I give the kids a booklet with that shape as the cover, and they copy the fact learned each day. The shaped booklet can go home after the unit, it is more interesting looking | |
than a folder, and the cover can be used as a sticker saver for that theme or unit. I still use the regular folders for poems and worksheets. When we've studied dinosaurs, I put the facts on sentence cards and at the beginning of each lesson we review previous lessons by sorting out the fact cards on the pocket chart under pictures of the dinos the facts go with.
