Clip to ScrapBook
Maybe you could add a day of reading groups. Group them heterogenously(so lower readers can benefit from higher readers). Have a Reading Folder designed for them to work on when they are not in a reading group.

During
groups, have a short poem that has something in common with your story (like a poem on families when you have a story pertaining to a family, or a particular animal when it is in your story, etc.) Have the small group read this aloud in unison. Talk about the poem: rhyming words, verbs, unsual words, etc. Read a shorter story that has the same theme as your reading story for the week.

Folders:

have work to cover the skills, vocabulary, etc. Have a blank sheet of paper for drawing characters, setting, or favorite part.

Have an extension day where you use the www or do a project. Maybe do this after your test on Friday for a culmination activity--something everyone will work toward and be excited about.

I hope I have atleast given you some idea you can use.

Good luck
