Not upper el, not lower el

Clip to ScrapBook
I understand completely about not fitting into an age category. I've also faced this frustration in purchasing supplemental teacher resources. So many books are still K-3 or 4-6. K-3 has too much that is too easy for my
kids and 4-6 has too much that is too hard. I so appreciate books written for just the third grade.

As far as being blamed, I've been there too. I keep trying to remind those teachers that just because a student says he's "forgotten" or even cliams he's never seen the material before does NOT mean that I didn't teach it. I don't recall the number, but I read research once on how many

times a child has to be exposed to information before it is mastered and becomes a part of his long term memory. It was a surprisingly high number--like 23 or something. You're right--I certainly don't go blaming the second grade teachers when my students don't capitalize, forget to indent, or write only in phrases and not sentences. I know they were taught how to do all of that correctly, it just isn't a part of them, yet.
