Behavior Problems By Josh

I've taught middle school for two years in a low income area with unbelievabl discipline problems. We have kids roaming the halls beating on people's doors and running away, and between 5-10 kids lined up outside of the principal's| office all day. Some days teachers can't cover a single lesson due to student behavior. We are allowed to paddle in our district and that helps a great deal. The teachers that don't paddle have a hard time and want to quit. I know there is lawsuits to consider but i'm in a union and am willing to go to court. I don't think paddling is necessary in the lower elementary grades but | | in middle school I think it helps. Those kids are beginning to show more disrespectful, show violent behavior and laziness. I didn't enjoy paddling but it did get results and the kids didn't take it too personally. Most of the time the kids would be hugging you the next day. Unfortunately, most school districts don't allow paddling so it can't solve your problems if they don't allow it. Check your school's policies on after school detention and see how they like staying late. Good Luck!
