"the real world" By Not a teacher

"What are we teaching them when we allow them that time to just talk and relax? Is this something we want to teach them to do once they are out in the workforce. I can see how well that will go over with bosses."Actually, | in the business world people do spend a lot of time standing around yakking. I notice it at my office, and my husband is always complaining that his supervisors stop by and yak about nothing important when he's trying to get work done. So we're not doing students such a big disfavor by letting them talk at the end of class. People do need time to unwind (especially the little ones). | | The bigger issue is that the principal was apparently displeased with the situation, and in his school, he is the boss.I think it's great that the students at your school are reading their AR books at the end of the day, but asking a sub to get students to do that is a bit unrealistic. Many regular classroom teachers find it difficult to get their students to read quietly even when they've been practicing the procedures for a while.
