silent lunch
By Cathy-Dee

Clip to ScrapBook
I think the idea is not bad, but I agree with the others that having a social time is also important for students.

When I think about my home-life growing up - most of our "conversations" took place around the supper table.
When we go out to restaurants everyone is talking. And for students it is a time to relax after working hard all morning. A time to share with friends and to work on those ever important socialization skills.

I think the idea of playing classical music or relaxation music during lunch is a very good idea and should continue. Have the music on at a level that still allows for talking,

but adds an element of calmness to the whole lunch time. As far as hurt feelings and other issues - put those aside and deal with them during recess breaks. I am sure most problems will fade away when students realize that problems won't be dealt with during class time - but during "their" time! The most I will take after a recess time is 3 minutes - if we can't solve the problem by then - then it waits until a "fun" time where those students involved are pulled.
