The Western Protocol Math curriculum was implemented 3 or 4 years ago, there are no changes listed in my information - where did you hear that? We use MathWorks - they only make books for Grade 1 and 2. No consumables -
you won't find many new series come with workbooks any more - (which in my opinion is good, that way I get to choose the seatwork I want to use - less waste that way I think).

The MathWorks series includes a teachers guide and black line masters. It is very good for hands on activities, small and large group activities, and it uses real world materials. You can also get a Canadian made

math guide called "Math Success" through a company called Primary Success out of BC. They also publish a very good teachers magazine style mailout specifically for Gr 1.

Math Success has very guided lessons, believes strongly in repetition and daily practice of each new skill for months. It teaches very specific steps to help the the child master addition and subtraction. It has only a few hands on activities suggested (I add a lot of my own) but it does include a short oral problem solving activity every day.
