Have you ever heard of the Glitter Germ Lesson? It is to help students understand why they need to wash their hands with warm soapy water. Give each student a small bit of lotion and have them to rub it all over their hands,| then use multi-colored glitter and sprinkle it evenly over their hands. Have one student shake hands with a student that has not had any glitter (germs) applied to their hands. You could have some pick up a piece of paper or touch something easy to clean up to demonstrate how germs spread. Then for clean up have the students to line up in 3 groups. Have group one to try to get | | the germs off with just a paper towel, another to use just cold water (no soap), and the third to use warm soapy water. When all the students are all cleaned up have them to discuss what they observed, what the glitter represented, why it is necessary to wash their hands with warm soapy water, etc. Be sure to take plenty of newspaper to use under the glitter. I have used this lesson with different age groups and they all seemed to enjoy it. Just a suggestion
