nightmare mother
By Doni

Clip to ScrapBook
I let the whole thing slide by. I excused his spelling test (he had a 100 average in spelling anyway), and I gave him class time (SSR time) to make up his work, which he did in a couple of days. I try to pick my battles
carefully. I don't think this mom realizes how she comes off. She is just so used to being in control of his schooling that she doesn't know how to give up control now. At least she expects him to eventually make up his work. I have another kid who has missed 20 days so far this year, and has not made up the first thing. Mother is complaining to principal, social worker (I had to report
because of unexcused absences), etc. because her child is failing every subject. She's failing because she is never at school, and when she is, she doesn't do any work.

We're held accountable for test scores, but there needs to be some accountability on the part of students and their parents. We have no control over whether a child chooses not to work or whether a parent chooses to keep their child home each time they wish to sleep in.
